(CMFRI) in Kochi in Kerala recently discovered a new deep-sea fish named Cyttopsis indica from the Arabian Sea off southern Kerala. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Cyttopsis indica<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a new species of <\/span><b>deep-sea fish.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered from the <\/span><b>Arabian Sea off southern Kerala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0 at a <\/span><b>depth of nearly 350 to 500 metres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> below sea level.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It belongs to the<\/span><b> genus Cyttopsis,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a primitive <\/span><b>group of marine fishes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> commonly known as &#8220;<\/span><b>dories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyttopsis indica has been given the <\/span><b>common name Indian Dory.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously, it was believed that the fish belonging to this genus in the Indian Ocean were of the species Zenopsis Conchifer or related Atlantic variations like Zenopsis Stabilis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, detailed genetic analysis and close evaluation of morphological differences proved that the Indian Dory possesses a<\/span><b> distinct genetic structure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">entirely <\/span><b>separate from its Atlantic and other known counterparts.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can <\/span><b>survive under immense pressure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by <\/span><b>storing high levels of waxy compounds <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in their bodies, making some of them <\/span><b>unsuitable for direct human <\/span><b>established <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the<\/span><b> Government of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on February 3rd <\/span><b>1947 <\/b><span
