


{"id":111430,"date":"2026-07-05T14:15:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T08:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=111430"},"modified":"2026-07-05T16:25:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T10:55:22","slug":"tandulwadi-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tandulwadi-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Tandulwadi Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Tandulwadi Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Six tourists were recently rescued after they lost their way and got stranded in dense fog while coming down from Tandulwadi Fort in Maharashtra&#8217;s Palghar district.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Tandulwadi Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located near Lalthane village in Palghar district, about 104 km from Mumbai, <\/span><b>Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort<\/span><b> dates back 800 years <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and was<\/span><b> primarily used<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a <\/span><b>watch tower <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over the surrounding plain.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tandulwadi is <\/span><b>not a fully built up fort,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but a <\/span><b>series of structures <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spread over the <\/span><b>top of the mountain.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At a height of 1524 feet, it has <\/span><b>views of the surrounding towns <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Saphale<\/span><b>, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Zanzorli lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><b>confluence of the Surya and <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/vaitarna-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vaitarna rivers<\/a>.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Tandulwadi Fort <\/b><b>History<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the thirteenth century, King Bhimdev&#8217;s kingdom comprised the cities of Shurparak (Nalasopara) and Mahikawati (Mahim).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>first known history <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the fort was in the <\/span><b>15th century <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(about 1429) during the <\/span><b>rule of Jafar Khan, son of Ahmed Shah of the Gujarat Sultanate.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was used as a<\/span><b> reconnoiter fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to keep a<\/span><b> watch on neighboring forts and the Arabian Sea.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 1454, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Sultan of Ahmedabad captured Mahikavati (Mahim Fort)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and one of<\/span><b> his Sardar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> named <\/span><b>Mallik Allauddin was made chief<\/b> <b>of Tandulwadi fort.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 1509, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Portuguese took<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the fort but <\/span><b>lost control <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the area to the <\/span><b>Marathas in 1737 after the Battle of Bassein.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Tandulwadi Fort <\/b><b>Structure<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has several rock cut water cisterns.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>no bastions, walls or houses <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the fort.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is <\/span><b>no evidence of fortification except for a small stone wall<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the southern side.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A<\/span><b> small water pond<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is situated in the center. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/india\/story\/maharashtra-tandulwadi-fort-rescue-six-tourists-saved-after-getting-lost-in-palghar-fog-ptag-2940477-2026-07-04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tandulwadi Fort is located near Lalthane village in Palghar district, about 104 km from Mumbai, Maharashtra.
