


{"id":111553,"date":"2026-07-06T13:22:34","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T07:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=111553"},"modified":"2026-07-06T15:08:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T09:38:59","slug":"garhwa-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/garhwa-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Garhwa Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Garhwa Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently arrested the last remaining absconding accused in the 2002 Garhwa Fort idol theft, dacoity and murder case.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Garhwa Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garhwa Fort is a <\/span><b>Hindu temple complex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in Garhwa Village in the <\/span><b>Prayagraj District of Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><b>built in the year 1750,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but the<\/span><b> temples within the fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">complex could be <\/span><b>more than 1000 years old<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before the fort was constructed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort complex is <\/span><b>protected <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as monuments of national importance by the central <\/span><b>Archaeological Survey of India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Garhwa Fort <\/b><b>History<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple is believed to be <\/span><b>built by the Guptas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Seven inscriptions from the reigns of Chandra Gupta, Kumara Gupta, and Skanda Gupta <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have been found at this site.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garhwa was<\/span><b> called Bhattagram\/Bhattapraya during the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/gupta-empire\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gupta period<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>fortifications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> around the temple were <\/span><b>built in 1750 CE <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the<\/span><b> Baghel King Vikramaditya.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Garhwa Fort <\/b><b>Architecture<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort complex spreads over a two-kilometer area.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>bastions on the four corners <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the fort complex with easy access provided by a flight of steps.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most important structure in the fort complex is the <\/span><b>Gupta-era temple.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is situated in southwestern part of the fort.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple measures about 55 feet in length and 30 feet in width with an east entrance.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple was built in the <\/span><b>panchakona design.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The temple consists of a <\/span><b>sanctum and a pillared mandapa.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctum is square on plan. The <\/span><b>Shiva Linga<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enshrined in the temple was <\/span><b>stolen by the British<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but the <\/span><b>Sakthi Pita can be seen among the recovered artefacts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">within the complex.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>two stepwells<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the complex.
