


{"id":11182,"date":"2023-05-23T04:33:51","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T23:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11182"},"modified":"2025-03-30T01:03:06","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T19:33:06","slug":"what-is-nvs-01","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-nvs-01\/","title":{"rendered":"What is NVS-01?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The GSLV-F12\/NVS-01 mission is designed to <strong>deploy the NVS-01 navigation satellite<\/strong> <strong>into a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>About NVS-01:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>first in the series of second-generation navigation satellites<\/strong> <strong>built by ISRO&#8217;s<\/strong> UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru.<\/li>\n<li><strong>At present, India uses its Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC)<\/strong> series of satellites for civilian and defence navigation in the Indian mainland and even 1500 kms beyond India&#8217;s borders.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>NVS series of satellites will sustain and augment the NavIC<\/strong> with enhanced features.<\/li>\n<li>This series <strong>incorporates L1 band signals<\/strong> additionally to widen the services.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For the first time, an indigenous atomic clock<\/strong> will be flown in NVS-01.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC):<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>regional navigation satellite<\/strong> <strong>system<\/strong>\u00a0 established <strong>by the ISRO<\/strong> <strong>to meet<\/strong> the positioning, navigation and timing <strong>requirements of the nation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>NavIC was <strong>erstwhile<\/strong> known as <strong>Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>constellation of seven satellites<\/strong> that work with a 24X7 network of ground stations while orbiting above Earth.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Three satellites are<\/strong> placed <strong>in geostationary orbit<\/strong> and <strong>four in inclined geosynchronous orbit.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Coverage<\/strong>: The NavIC coverage area includes <strong>India and a region up to 1,500km beyond the nation\u2019s boundary.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Services offered:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It offers <strong>two services &#8212; Standard Position Service for civilian users<\/strong> and <strong>Restricted Service for strategic users<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The system is <strong>used in terrestrial, aerial, marine transportation<\/strong>, location-based services, personal mobility, resource monitoring, surveying and geodesy, scientific research etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO)?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To attain geosynchronous (and also geostationary) Earth orbits, <strong>a spacecraft is first launched into an elliptical GTO.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There on, <strong>the satellite will independently use its onboard propulsion systems<\/strong> to <strong>perform orbit-raising manoeuvres and reach its intended orbit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO)?<\/h3>\n<p>To attain geosynchronous (and also geostationary) Earth orbits, a spacecraft is first launched into an elliptical GTO.
