An <strong>infection reaches the bloodstream<\/strong> and <strong>causes inflammation<\/strong> in the body.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Severe sepsis.<\/strong> The <strong>infection is severe<\/strong> enough to affect organ function.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Septic shock<\/strong>.
