It took place near <\/span><b>Jajau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, close to <\/span><b>Agra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in present-day <\/span><b>Uttar Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, following the death of <\/span><b>Emperor Aurangzeb<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The battle was fought primarily between <\/span><b>Prince Muazzam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (later <\/span><b>Bahadur Shah I<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and <\/span><b>Prince Azam Shah<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both of whom claimed the Mughal throne. Muazzam&#8217;s victory settled the succession dispute and marked the beginning of a gradual decline in the political authority of the Mughal Empire.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Battle of Jajau Background<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Battle of Jajau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emerged from the Mughal succession crisis that followed Emperor Aurangzeb&#8217;s death in March 1707, leading to a struggle for the imperial throne among his sons.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His long reign had left the <\/span><b>empire administratively <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exhausted due to continuous wars and regional unrest.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Prince Muazzam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the eldest son, was serving as the <\/span><b>Governor of Kabul and Lahore<\/b><span
