text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>medium-range, ground-based air defense system.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was designed and <\/span><b>developed jointly by Raytheon (United States)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Kongsberg Defence &amp; Aerospace (Norway).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NASAMS <\/span><b>reached operational capability in 1994 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and was first deployed by the Royal Norwegian Air Force.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NASAMS is <\/span><b>operated by 13 countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has been <\/span><b>integrated into the U.S. National Capital Region\u2019s air defense system <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since 2005.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the <\/span><b>U.S., Norway, Finland, Spain, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Netherlands, Oman, Lithuania, Indonesia, Australia, Qatar, Hungary, <\/span><b>Ukraine, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and one undisclosed country depend on NASAMS for homeland defense and the protection of critical assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is built on a modular, distributed, open-hardware and software architecture.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>world\u2019s first networked short- and medium-range air defense system <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that c<\/span><b>ould integrate with other equipment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and air defense systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It features an <\/span><b>X-Band, 360-degree phased array air defense radar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a <\/span><b>75-kilometer range to identify targets.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>primary weapon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the system is the <\/span><b>AIM-120 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which have an engagement <\/span><b>range of about 30 kilometers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NASAMS is armed with three launchers, each carrying up to six missiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system can <\/span><b>engage 72 targets simultaneously<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in active and passive modes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It features network-centric, open architecture that provides increased survivability against electronic countermeasures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NASAMS <\/span><b>can fire on target data provided by external sensors.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advanced emission control features of the radars minimize the risk of revealing the NASAMS unit&#8217;s own position. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/us-confirms-sale-worth-700-million-of-air-defence-missile-system-to-taiwan\/article70299979.ece\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is a medium-range, ground-based air defense system.
