text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>marginal sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Arctic Ocean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located along the <\/span><b>northern coasts of Norway and Russia.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers an area of 1.4 million sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was named for Willem Barents, a 16th-century Dutch navigator who explored it while searching for a northeast passage to Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sea was <\/span><b>known to Vikings <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and medieval Russians as the<\/span><b> Murmean Sea.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Boundaries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is bounded by the <\/span><b>Svalbard archipelago<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the northwest, the <\/span><b>Franz Josef Land islands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the northeast, the <\/span><b>Novaya Zemlya archipelago<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the east, the <\/span><b>Norwegian Sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Greenland Sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the west, and by the <\/span><b>Kola Peninsula<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the south.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>separated from <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Kara Sea by the Kara Strait<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Novaya Zemlya archipelago.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>White Sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Pechora Sea<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>two parts of the Barents Sea.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The White Sea is a southern arm of the Barents Sea, which separates the Kola Peninsula from the Russian mainland.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pechora Sea is situated in the southeastern part of the Barents Sea.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The maximum width of the Barents Sea is 1,050 km, and it is about 1,300 km in length.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers a <\/span><b>relatively shallow continental shelf <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fringing the Eurasian landmass.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has an estimated average depth of 230 m.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>climate <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the sea is <\/span><b>subarctic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The waters of the Barents Sea have a <\/span><b>high salinity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 34 parts per 1,000.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Gulf Stream keeps the Barents Sea <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and its adjoining coasts <\/span><b>significantly warmer than other sub-Arctic regions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
