{"id":112594,"date":"2026-07-11T13:27:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T07:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=112594"},"modified":"2026-07-11T13:27:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T07:57:27","slug":"molluscs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/molluscs\/","title":{"rendered":"Molluscs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Molluscs Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has announced that over half of molluscs are threatened by deep-sea mining.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Molluscs<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Molluscs are extremely diverse <\/span><b>invertebrate animals.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Habitat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They are found in nearly all <\/span><b>freshwater and marine environments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and some are found also on land.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They come in all shapes and sizes, and some of <\/span><b>them grow external shells to protect their soft bodies.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are a quarter of all living marine species and also have importance as food sources.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The molluscs include many familiar animals, including <\/span><b>clams, snails, slugs, and squid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as some less familiar animals, like <\/span><b>tusk shells and chitons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Major groups within the Mollusca:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Polyplacophora: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>chitons, snail-like molluscs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with eight-part overlapping scale shells<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Gastropoda: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are true <\/span><b>snails and slugs. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They represent the most diverse class within phylum Mollusca with 60,000 to 80,000 extant species in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial habitats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Bivalvia: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are molluscs with <\/span><b>hinged two-part shells<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
