Elevating to Strategic Partnership and Roadmap to 2030"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India-New Zealand Relations Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian PM&#8217;s visit to New Zealand\u2014the <\/span><b>first <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years\u2014marked a major milestone in bilateral relations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and New Zealand elevated their ties to a Strategic Partnership, adopted a Roadmap to 2030, expanded cooperation in diverse areas, while reaffirming their shared commitment to a free, open and rules-based <\/span><b>Indo-Pacific<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Strategic Partnership and Roadmap to 2030<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and New Zealand <\/span><b>formally elevated<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership and endorsed a Roadmap to 2030 for comprehensive cooperation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The partnership is anchored in democratic values and rule of law, economic collaboration, security and defence cooperation, and <\/span><b>people-to-people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and cultural ties.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The visit symbolised a renewed phase in bilateral engagement after four decades.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Economic Cooperation and Free Trade Agreement (FTA)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Trade expansion:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both countries committed to <\/span><b>doubling <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bilateral trade to NZ$7 billion (around \u20b935,000 crore) by <\/span><b>2030<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recently concluded India\u2013New Zealand FTA is expected to expand market access; benefit industries, farmers and youth; and boost investment and supply-chain integration.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Investment commitments:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Zealand announced its intention to invest <\/span><b>USD 20 billion in India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the next 15 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investment is expected to strengthen long-term partnerships in infrastructure, technology and emerging sectors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Defence, Maritime Security and Indo-Pacific Cooperation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Maritime security and counter-terrorism:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To strengthen regional security, both sides agreed to establish a Maritime Security Dialogue, create a Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter-Terrorism, and enhance information sharing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mechanism on counter-terrorismis is particularly significant given concerns over pro-Khalistan extremist activities and New Zealand&#8217;s membership in the <\/span><b>Five Eyes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intelligence alliance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Shared Indo-Pacific vision:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two leaders reaffirmed commitment to:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A free, open, inclusive, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freedom of navigation and overflight, in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (<\/span><b>UNCLOS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respect for international law and peaceful resolution of disputes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The emphasis assumes significance amid growing concerns over <\/span><b>China&#8217;s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expanding military activities in the Indo-Pacific.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Combined Task Force-150 (CTF-150):<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The leaders highlighted cooperation under CTF-150 in 2025, in which New Zealand served as Commander, while India served as Deputy Commander.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The force works to combat narcotics trafficking, maritime terrorism, and illicit maritime activities in the Middle East and Western Indian Ocean.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Sectoral Cooperation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Agriculture and animal husbandry:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both sides signed agreements on animal husbandry and dairying, technical collaboration and exchange of best practices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Launch of the Kiwifruit Action Plan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Establishment of Centres of Excellence for Kiwifruit in Nagaland and Uttarakhand.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Joint Action Plan on Sport: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will promote cooperation in high-performance sports, sports science, sports medicine, and athlete development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Scientific collaboration: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The countries also agreed to enhance cooperation in Antarctic research, and scientific knowledge exchange.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Building<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Transparent, resilient and diversified supply chains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Cultural similarities:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Linking <\/span><b>Matariki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the M\u0101ori New Year &#8211; marked by the appearance of the Pleiades star cluster.
