{"id":112754,"date":"2026-07-12T14:02:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T08:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=112754"},"modified":"2026-07-12T17:05:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T11:35:38","slug":"trachynotothrips-vyaghravahini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/trachynotothrips-vyaghravahini\/","title":{"rendered":"Trachynotothrips vyaghravahini"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Trachynotothrips vyaghravahini Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers recently discovered a new species of insect named Trachynotothrips vyaghravahini in the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats of Karnataka.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Trachynotothrips vyaghravahini<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>new species of insect belonging to the group known as thrips.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered inside the bright<\/span><b> flowers of a tropical plant<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the biodiversity-rich <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/western-ghats\/\" target=\"_blank\">Western Ghats<\/a> of Karnataka.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was named vyaghravahini, which is derived from the ancient Sanskrit words <\/span><b>&#8216;vyaghra&#8217; (meaning tiger) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>&#8216;vahini&#8217; (meaning flowing river).\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This name is a direct nod to the <\/span><b>specific location<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where the insect was found, <\/span><b>Pilikula<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which historically was known as a<\/span><b> river where wild tigers frequently came to drink water.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike similar species, the newly discovered species has a <\/span><b>uniformly pale midsection without any brown stripe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s and entirely pale hind legs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, it <\/span><b>lacks the distinct spine-like hairs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the sides of its abdomen and features a different arrangement of microscopic bristles on its lower body compared to its insect cousins.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What are Thrips?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thrips are <\/span><b>minute, slender-bodied insects <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">less than 1\/16 inch to about 3\/16 inch in length.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Adults <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that range in color from<\/span><b> yellow to black<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and have <\/span><b>four long, narrow, fringed wings.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>young nymphs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>smaller, wingless,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and range in color from <\/span><b>yellow to white.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Many thrips are plant feeders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> attacking flowers, leaves, fruit, twigs, or buds.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thrips are <\/span><b>rarely seen because of their small size<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The insects<\/span><b> feed by puncturing the surface of the plant parts with their single large mandible <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and slurping the plant juices that seep from the wound.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flowers or <\/span><b>leaves <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may <\/span><b>develop silvery streaks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
