{"id":11310,"date":"2023-05-30T04:49:31","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T23:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11310"},"modified":"2025-03-30T01:49:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T20:19:50","slug":"what-is-acinetobactor-baumannii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-acinetobactor-baumannii\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Acinetobactor Baumannii?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Acinetobactor Baumannii:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Acinetobacter is a <strong>group of bacteria(germs) commonly found in the environment<\/strong>, like in soil and water.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>While there <strong>are many types<\/strong>, the <strong>most common<\/strong> cause of infections <strong>is Acinetobacter baumannii<\/strong>, which accounts for most Acinetobacter infections in humans.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It is a Gram-negative bacteria<\/strong> that often <strong>displays multidrug resistance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It can <strong>cause infections in the blood, urinary tract,and lungs (<\/strong>pneumonia), or in wounds in other parts of the body.<\/li>\n<li>It can <strong>also \u201ccolonize\u201d or live in a patient without causing infections<\/strong> or symptoms, especially in respiratory secretions (sputum) or open wounds.<\/li>\n<li>These germs <strong>are frequent causes of hospital-acquired infections<\/strong>, especially in intensive care units (ICUs).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>highly contagious.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Gram-Positive vs. Gram-Negative Bacteria:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gram-positive bacteria have cell walls<\/strong> made of a <strong>thick layer of peptidoglycan.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>cell walls of gram-negative bacteria contain only a thin layer of peptidoglycan<\/strong>, but they <strong>also have an outer membrane<\/strong> that is absent in gram-positive bacteria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gram staining is a technique<\/strong> that uses violet dye <strong>to distinguish<\/strong> between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If the bacteria are gram-positive, the thick, peptidoglycan layer in their cell walls will retain the dye and they will stain violet<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If the bacteria are gram-negative<\/strong>, the dye will leak out of the thin peptidoglycan layer, and <strong>the bacteria will stain red.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is multidrug resistance?<\/h3>\n<p>Multidrug resistance (MDR) is a type of insensitivity developed by microorganisms to lethal doses of antibiotics.
