{"id":11314,"date":"2023-05-30T02:51:08","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T21:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11314"},"modified":"2025-03-30T01:51:28","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T20:21:28","slug":"kss-iii-batch-ii-submarine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kss-iii-batch-ii-submarine\/","title":{"rendered":"KSS-III Batch-II Submarine"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About KSS-III Batch-II Submarine:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The KSS-III, the <strong>largest submarine to ever be built by South Korea<\/strong>, is being developed in <strong>two phases, Batch-I and Batch-II.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a series of <strong>diesel-electric attack submarines<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>KSS-III Batch-II is an <strong>advanced version of its predecessor<\/strong> in terms of combat management systems, firepower, and sonar capabilities.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>jointly developed by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME<\/strong>) and <strong>Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The submarine will be <strong>89 metres long<\/strong>, <strong>9.6 metres wide<\/strong>, and have a <strong>displacement of around 3,600 tonnes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Batch-II series will be <strong>equipped with lithium-ion batteries,<\/strong> which will reportedly make it capable of <strong>cruising at higher speeds<\/strong> with a greater period of underwater endurance, life expectancy, and durability.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, the submarines will be <strong>equipped with Air Independent Propulsion (AIP)<\/strong> technology that will allow them to operate without access to atmospheric oxygen.<\/li>\n<li>It will also be <strong>capable of carrying a crew of 50 members.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It can <strong>fire missiles such as Hyunmoo-4-4<\/strong> submarine-launched <strong>ballistic missiles (SLBM).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The submarines can <strong>attain a maximum operating speed of approximately 20knots<\/strong> and cruising <strong>range of 10,000 nmi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The navigation aids on board the submarine include an <strong>inertial navigation system (INS) and global positioning system (GPS).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology?<\/h3>\n<p>Air Independent Propulsion or Air Independent Power is any marine propulsion technology that allows non-nuclear submarines to operate without access to atmospheric oxygen.
