


{"id":113422,"date":"2026-07-16T13:22:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T07:52:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=113422"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:22:32","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T07:52:32","slug":"korku-tribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/korku-tribe\/","title":{"rendered":"Korku Tribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Korku Tribe Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the indigenous Korku community of Madhya Pradesh have demanded the forest department and district administration to remove encroachments from forest lands.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Korku Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Korkus belong to the <\/span><b>Munda or Kolarian group.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Korku are mostly found in <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>adjoining Melghat region of Maharashtra.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Language:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A few groups have been more successful in preserving their language, especially the <\/span><b>Potharia Korku<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (from the Vindhya mountains).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Korku is one of the 196 languages termed <\/span><b>endangered by UNESCO<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Culture and Society<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>traditional healing methods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are still widely practiced by this tribe and they regard their dead as Gods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>commemorate the dead<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they install a memorial pillar, which is <\/span><b>called Munda.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Dance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They perform a traditional <\/span><b>Korku dance called Gadli.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this dance Men wear <\/span><b>white costumes and pagdis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while womenfolk wear red, yellow, green and blue kinari sarees with minimal jewellery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>women also have<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an <\/span><b>instrument called Chitkola<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that they use while performing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Korku <\/span><b>women<\/b> <b>are fond of tattoos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
