against a \u2018Boss Scam\u2019, wherein fraudsters impersonate chief executives or senior officials to trick finance teams into transferring funds.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Boss Scam<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>emerging cyber fraud<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where <\/span><b>fraudsters impersonate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Chief Executive Officers <\/span><b>(CEOs),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Managing Directors <\/span><b>(MDs) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and other <\/span><b>senior officials <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>trick finance executives into transferring funds.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyber criminals are using<\/span><b> two major methods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to carry out the fraud.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the first method, fraudsters use <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/deepfake-technology-and-its-regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>deepfake technology<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including<\/span><b> AI-generated voice cloning, fake video calls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>false social media groups to impersonate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> top executives.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Finance officials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are then <\/span><b>instructed to transfer money<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a specified bank account.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some cases, they are also told not to disclose the transaction by claiming that it relates to Unpublished Price Sensitive Information (UPSI).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another method involves<\/span><b> sending compressed ZIP files containing malicious executable programs.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Once opened,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> these files can compromise systems and <\/span><b>hijack the active WhatsApp Web sessions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fraudster gets access to the finance officer&#8217;s WhatsApp account and then <\/span><b>contacts accounts or finance employees, instructing them<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make <\/span><b>immediate payments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to specified bank accounts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some instances, <\/span><b>attackers modify contact lists by saving their own numbers under the names of CEOs or MD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, making fraudulent messages appear
