They are called Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is an emerging disease that is significantly <strong>impacting amphibian populations across the globe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The disease has <strong>caused the decline or complete extinction of over 200 species of frogs<\/strong> and other amphibians.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>How chytrid fungus infects the frog?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Chytrid fungus is a <strong>waterborne fungus<\/strong> that <strong>disperses into the environment<\/strong> in order to <strong>search for a new host<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The fungus <strong>travels through water sources<\/strong> <strong>until it finds a new host<\/strong>, and enters through the skin.<\/li>\n<li>Chytrid <strong>infects frogs by reproducing in their skin.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The single-celled fungus <strong>enters a skin cell<\/strong>, <strong>multiplies<\/strong>, and then <strong>breaks back out onto the surface of the animal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>This damage to the skin affects the frog\u2019s ability to balance water and salt levels<\/strong> and eventually <strong>leads to death<\/strong> if infection levels are high enough.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is a fungus?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>A fungus (plural: fungi) is a type of eukaryotic organism belonging to the kingdom Fungi, alongside plants, animals, protozoa, and monera.
