It marks the <\/span><b>first-ever record <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the <\/span><b>genus Simonia in India.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Measuring <\/span><b>less than two millimetres,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this tiny <\/span><b>cave-dwelling<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> spider is specially adapted to<\/span><b> life in perpetual darkness.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists describe it as <\/span><b>troglophilic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, meaning it <\/span><b>thrives in cave environments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">while <\/span><b>retaining the ability to survive outside<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> them under suitable conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its most fascinating feature is the construction of an<\/span><b> intricate cone-shaped \u201cray web.\u201d\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These \u201cray webs\u201d function like<\/span><b> miniature slingshots,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allowing the spider to <\/span><b>launch its web at high speed to trap flying insects.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>About Hamataliwa papikonda<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a new species of <\/span><b>lynx spider.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was recorded in the mixed deciduous forest canopy of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/papikonda-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Papikonda National Park<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>Andhra Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It represents the first documented occurrence of the genus Hamataliwa in Andhra Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Measuring just unde<\/span><b>r 5 mm,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the<\/span><b> yellow-bodied <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spider belongs to the <\/span><b>lynx spider family Oxyopidae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is an active predator that <\/span><b>does not build webs.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, it relies on<\/span><b> speed, agility and its spiny legs to capture prey.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a<\/span><b> distinctive hexagonal arrangement of eight eyes, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which helps it <\/span><b>track and hunt insects <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with precision.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2285722&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Simonia lawbah and Hamataliwa papikonda are the two newly discovered spider species.
