Environment recently declared a 326.69 sq.km. area around the Great Himalayan National Park in Himachal Pradesh as an eco-sensitive zone.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Great Himalayan National Park\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a high altitude national park located in <\/span><b>Kullu District<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>Himachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It spreads across a total area of 1171 sq.km, encompassing <\/span><b>elevations ranging<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><b>1,500 to 6,000 meters.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nestled in the<\/span><b> far Western Himalayas,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the park <\/span><b>comprises <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four valleys: the<\/span><b> Tirthan Valley, the Sainj Valley, the Parvati Valley, and the Jiwa Nal Valley.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>surrounded by steep style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GHNP is situated <\/span><b>adjacent to Pin Valley National Park, Rupi-Bhaba Wildlife Sanctuary,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Tirthan and Sainj Wildlife Sanctuaries.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Topography<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The park is a stunning mix of lush <\/span><b>coniferous forests, meadows, glaciers,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and mountain peaks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was awarded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/unesco-world-heritage-sites-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> status in 2014.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vegetation grows in <\/span><b>well-defined altitude zones,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> beginning with rather <\/span><b>open, subtropical forests at the lowest <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">valley bottoms, gradually grading to <\/span><b>mixed forests of horse chestnut<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, evergreen <\/span><b>oak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>spruce, and deodar, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">then to rusty-leaved <\/span><b>kharsu oak, spruce, and fir <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the <\/span><b>upper temperate zone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Further up is a subalpine zone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of<\/span><b> birches, stunted firs,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>rhododendron <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bushes, followed by the <\/span><b>higher alpine areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where vegetation is reduced to <\/span><b>grasses, herbs, and low shrubs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as juniper.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park is home to 31 mammals, including the elusive <\/span><b>snow leopard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the majestic <\/span><b>Himalayan brown bear<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the vibrant <\/span><b>blue sheep, or bharal.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other notable residents include
