{"id":11455,"date":"2023-05-25T12:20:56","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T06:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11455"},"modified":"2025-03-30T02:42:13","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T21:12:13","slug":"peoples-biodiversity-register-pbr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/peoples-biodiversity-register-pbr\/","title":{"rendered":"People\u2019s Biodiversity Register (PBR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is People\u2019s biodiversity register?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>PBR serves as a <strong>comprehensive record of various aspects of biodiversity<\/strong>, including the conservation of <strong>habitats, preservation of land races, domesticated stocks and breeds of animals, micro-organisms<\/strong>, and the accumulation of knowledge related to the area&#8217;s biological diversity.<\/li>\n<li>So far, 2,67,608 PBRs have been prepared by <strong>Biodiversity Management Committees<\/strong> in different states.<\/li>\n<li>There is a plan to set up PBR in every village across the country under <strong>Mission LiFE (lifestyle for environment)<\/strong> which is conceived to conserve the planet earth through mindful utilisation of natural resources and various other actions at individual and community levels in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Biodiversity Management Committees<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>As per the <strong>Biological Diversity Act 2002<\/strong>, BMCs are created for \u201cpromoting conservation, sustainable use and documentation of biological diversity\u201d by local bodies across the country.<\/li>\n<li>BMCs have been <strong>constituted by the local bodies in the States and Union Territories<\/strong> and are entrusted with preparation of the PBRs in consultation with local communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Led by India, mission LiFE is a global plan of action that aims to save the planet from the disastrous consequences of climate change.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vision<\/strong>: This mission envisions replacing the prevalent \u2018use-and-dispose\u2019 economy with a circular economy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective<\/strong>: To promote an environmentally conscious lifestyle that focuses on \u2018mindful and deliberate utilisation\u2019 instead of \u2018mindless and wasteful consumption\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is meant by land races?<\/h3>\n<p>Landraces are defined as dynamic populations of a cultivated plant with a historical origin, distinct identity, often genetically diverse and locally adapted, and associated with a set of farmers&#8217;
