


{"id":11467,"date":"2026-01-10T11:42:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T06:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11467"},"modified":"2026-01-10T14:46:43","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T09:16:43","slug":"dal-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dal-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"Dal Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Dal Lake Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parts of the Dal Lake in Srinagar froze recently as the city recorded its coldest night of the winter, with temperatures plunging well below the freezing point across the Kashmir Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Dal Lake<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>mid-altitude urban freshwater lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in <\/span><b>Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>surrounded by the Pir Panjal mountains.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the \u201c<\/span><b>Jewel in the crown of Kashmir\u201d or \u201cSrinagar\u2019s Jewel\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers an area of about 18 to 22 sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>one of the world\u2019s largest natural lakes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and also known as the<\/span><b> Lake of Flowers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lake <\/span><b>gets its water mainly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the <\/span><b>Telbal stream.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This stream <\/span><b>flows from the Jhelum River.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>During the winter season,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>temperature <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sometimes reaches<\/span><b> \u221211\u00b0C (12\u00b0F), freezing the lake.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>wetland is divided by causeways into four basins<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal, and Nagin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(although Nagin is also considered an independent lake).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Lokut-dal and Bod-dal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">each<\/span><b> have an island <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the centre, <\/span><b>known as Rup Lank (or Char Chinari) and Sona Lank, respectively.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>floating gardens, locally known as &#8220;Rad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,&#8221; are a spectacular highlight of the lake.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are<\/span><b> patches of land that float<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the water. <\/span><b>Farmers grow vegetables and flower<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s on them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dal Lake is also popular for the <\/span><b>floating market, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where <\/span><b>vendors have their own Shikaras\/wooden boats <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and approach tourists.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>shoreline <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the lake is encompassed by a <\/span><b>boulevard lined with Mughal-era gardens, parks, houseboats, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and hotels.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Mughal Gardens:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Nishat Bagh:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is known as the &#8220;<\/span><b>Garden of Joy.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; It is a terraced garden with fountains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Shalimar Bagh: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This garden is called the <\/span><b>&#8220;Abode of Love.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221;
