{"id":11507,"date":"2023-05-27T04:02:56","date_gmt":"2023-05-26T22:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11507"},"modified":"2025-03-30T03:01:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T21:31:11","slug":"son-ghadiyal-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/son-ghadiyal-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Son Ghadiyal Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The tribunal also <strong>directed MoEF &amp; CC<\/strong> to look into the question of declaring parts of river Son, running in both states, as <strong>&#8216;Son Ghadiyal Wildlife Sanctuary&#8217;<\/strong> in accordance with law within three months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>About Son Ghadiyal Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Son Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary in Sidhi District of <strong>Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was declared a wildlife sanctuary <strong>in 1981<\/strong> by the State government to <strong>protect and preserve<\/strong> the faunal diversity of the river, <strong>specifically the critically endangered Gharial and the vulnerable Marsh Crocodile.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Sanctuary consists an <strong>altogether length of 210 km<\/strong> encompassing lengths of 161 km of <strong>Son river<\/strong>, 23 km of <strong>Banas river<\/strong>, and 26 km of <strong>Gopad River<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The sanctuary is home to a significant population <strong>of Gharials<\/strong>, as well as other species of fauna such as <strong>Indian flapshell turtles, smooth-coated otters, Indian Skimmer<\/strong> and a variety of <strong>fish species<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is also a <strong>breeding ground for the Indian Skimmer.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>About <strong>101 species of birds<\/strong> registered in the sanctuary make it rich in aquatic and avifaunal biodiversity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are the special features of crocodile?<\/h3>\n<p>Crocodiles have powerful jaws with many conical teeth and short legs with clawed webbed toes.
