Through training, technical assistance and capacity building, it has evolved into an important instrument of India\u2019s South-South Cooperation, Global South engagement and development diplomacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a flagship bilateral development cooperation programme of the Government of India, instituted by a decision of the Union Cabinet on 15 September <\/span><b>1964<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It aims to share India\u2019s technical expertise, knowledge and developmental experience with partner countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is administered by the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/ministry-of-external-affairs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ministry of External Affairs<\/a> (MEA).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a fully funded programme of the Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers 161 partner countries across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Pacific and Small Island countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its main focus is on capacity building, skill development, technical assistance and knowledge sharing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers areas such as governance, public administration, digital technology, agriculture, finance, health, <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/renewable-energy-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>renewable energy<\/strong><\/a>, climate change and <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/disaster-management-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>disaster management<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is based on the principles of mutual benefit, partnership and <\/span><b>South-South Cooperation.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme Role and Working<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme primarily works by building the human and institutional capacities of partner countries. It provides specialised training and technical assistance to government officials and professionals, enabling them to gain knowledge and skills in areas relevant to their countries\u2019 developmental needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme follows a largely demand-driven approach. Partner countries identify their capacity-building requirements, after which eligible participants are nominated through the concerned authorities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These participants undertake specialised training through Indian universities, government institutions, training centres and other approved institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After completing their training, they return to their home countries and apply the Programme Expanding Role\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recent initiatives demonstrate that the ITEC Programme is expanding beyond conventional technical training into
