trade.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>India-Romania Relations<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and Romania share a longstanding relationship that has gradually expanded from diplomatic engagement to cooperation in trade, technology, education, culture, defence and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and Romania <\/span><b>established diplomatic relations in 1948<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will complete <\/span><b>80 years of diplomatic relations in 2028.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India enjoys a trade surplus with Romania. In FY 2024-25, total bilateral trade was approximately US$1.45 billion. Romania accounted for 0.24% of India\u2019s total exports and was <\/span><b>India\u2019s 56th-largest export destination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while it accounted for 0.06% of India\u2019s imports and <\/span><b>ranked 81st among India\u2019s import sources.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India\u2019s major exports include<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> petroleum products, engineering goods and pharmaceuticals, while imports include machinery, vegetable oils, iron and steel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bilateral relations have also developed through cooperation in areas such as information technology, petroleum and natural gas, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, tourism and defence.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Significance of Romania for India<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Romania\u2019s strategic location, EU membership, industrial capabilities and growing technological potential make it an important partner for India in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Gateway to the European Union<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: As an EU member, Romania can help deepen India\u2019s economic engagement with European markets, particularly through the India-EU FTA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Strategic Location and Connectivity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Located in South-Eastern Europe on the Black Sea, Romania connects the European mainland with the wider Black Sea region.
