{"id":115289,"date":"2026-07-26T13:37:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T08:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=115289"},"modified":"2026-07-26T17:02:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T11:32:04","slug":"insat-3dr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/insat-3dr\/","title":{"rendered":"INSAT-3DR"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>INSAT-3DR Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An analysis of the visible satellite image and the INSAT-3DR infrared image, captured recently, suggests that roughly 60 to 70 percent of India&#8217;s landmass is under cloud cover. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About INSAT-3DR<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INSAT-3DR <strong>(<\/strong><\/span><b>Indian National Satellite-3DR) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an advanced <\/span><b>meteorological satellite <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">developed by <\/span><b>ISRO<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objectives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Improve <\/span><b>weather forecasting, cyclone tracking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, disaster warning, and <\/span><b>environmental monitoring over India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>surrounding region.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>launched <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on 8 September <\/span><b>2016 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aboard the GSLV-F05 launch vehicle.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is configured with an<\/span><b> Imaging System,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and an <\/span><b>Atmospheric Sounder.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Like its predecessor INSAT-3D,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> INSAT-3DR <\/span><b>carries a Data Relay Transponder <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as a <\/span><b>Search and Rescue Transponder.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, INSAT-3DR will <\/span><b>provide service continuity to earlier meteorological missions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/isro\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ISRO<\/strong><\/a> and further augment the capability to provide various meteorological as well as search and rescue services.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides <\/span><b>half-hourly multispectral images<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the Indian region from a <\/span><b>geostationary position.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> significant improvements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> incorporated in INSAT-3DR are:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Imaging in the middle infrared band <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to provide nighttime pictures of low clouds and fog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Imaging in two thermal infrared bands <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for <\/span><b>estimation of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with better accuracy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Higher spatial resolution in the Visible <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Thermal Infrared bands.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/science\/story\/isro-satellite-images-india-cloud-cover-insat-monsoon-imd-2026-rain-science-news-2951126-2026-07-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INSAT-3DR is ISRO&#8217;s advanced meteorological satellite supporting weather forecasting, cyclone tracking, and disaster management.
