{"id":115357,"date":"2026-07-27T12:09:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T06:39:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=115357"},"modified":"2026-07-27T12:13:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T06:43:58","slug":"praxis-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/praxis-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"PRAXIS Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>PRAXIS Mission Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NASA has just selected a mission concept called \u2018PRAXIS\u2019 for its Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) 2026 phase I funding.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About PRAXIS Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PRAXIS is an acronym of \u2018<\/span><b>Planetary Rings Autonomous EXploration with In-situ Sampling\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is designed to collect and study ring particles directly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>conceptualized by NASA.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will transform <\/span><b>understanding of ring structure and origins for Saturn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (dense), Uranus and Neptune (tenuous), rings of other objects such as Centaurs Chariklo and Chiron.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will transform understanding of <\/span><b>ring structure and origins for Saturn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (dense), Uranus and Neptune (tenuous), rings of other objects such as <\/span><b>Centaurs Chariklo and Chiron.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will consist of a <\/span><b>bio-inspired robotic explorer<\/b> <b>driven by an AI model,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will be capable of <\/span><b>directly sampling particles<\/b> <b>from planetary ring systems.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It combines robotic autonomy for collision avoidance, precision sampling, and on-site analysis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also <\/span><b>uses technology inspired by sport casting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to capture free-floating particles and miniaturised instruments for real-time scientific analysis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It currently plans to <\/span><b>just graze the ring plane.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Working of the Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once it has picked a target particle, the <\/span><b>spacecraft will perform a touch-and-go sample of the particle\u2019s surface<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using a long deployable boom, staying at a safe distance from the moving ring particles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once it has a sample, the craft will move on to another region or gap in the rings to sample from another area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it has a sample, <\/span><b>small instruments will snag free-floating particles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the AI model will help measure particle size, porosity, and composition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PRAXIS addresses a key Decadal priority by delivering the <\/span><b>first direct observations of mm- to cm-scale ring particles.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/science\/praxis-a-nasa-mission-to-graze-planet-rings\/article71269143.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PRAXIS Mission is conceptualized by NASA.
