The state has eight notified Scheduled Tribes, of which Gawda, Kunbi and Velip are the principal tribal communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Major Tribes of Goa<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The major tribes of Goa are <\/span><b>Gawda, Kunbi and Velip<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, each preserving distinct traditions, customary institutions, festivals and traditional occupations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Gawda Tribe<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gawdas are regarded as one of the oldest indigenous communities of Goa and constitute the <\/span><b>largest <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/scheduled-tribes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Scheduled Tribe<\/b><\/a><b> in the state.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They mainly inhabit Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona, Ponda, Dharbandora and Sattari.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: dialectal variations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Celebrate <\/span><b>Shigmo, Dhalo, Diwali and village temple target=\"_blank\">Hinduism<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Christianity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kunbi Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kunbis are among Goa\u2019s oldest agrarian communities and have contributed significantly to the state\u2019s agricultural heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primarily found in Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona and Dharbandora.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span <\/span><b>Dhodia, Dubla (Halpati), Naikda (Talavia), Siddi (Nayaka) and Varli. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These communities are primarily concentrated in neighbouring states and have only a limited population in Goa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Traditional Tribal Culture of Goa<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goa\u2019s tribal communities have preserved a rich cultural heritage that reflects their close relationship with nature, agriculture and traditional village life.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Gaonkari (Comunidade) system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a traditional form of community-based village administration and collective land
