It was inaugurated by India&#8217;s Defence Minister as part of 125 BRO infrastructure projects. The 920 metre cut and cover tunnel is located at an altitude of over 12,000 feet. It ensures uninterrupted movement even when nearby surface roads become inaccessible during harsh weather.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built By: The Shyok Tunnel was inaugurated along with 125 BRO infrastructure projects, reflecting India&#8217;s continued investment in strengthening transport and connectivity across strategically important border regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Shyok Tunnel Significance<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Shyok Tunnel plays a vital role in improving border logistics, military mobility and strategic preparedness in eastern Ladakh.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support to Daulat Beg Oldie: The DS-DBO Road is the only surface route connecting Daulat Beg Oldie, India&#8217;s northernmost military outpost. The tunnel strengthens this critical supply corridor and improves access to forward military positions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Military Logistics: Reliable year round connectivity allows faster movement of troops, weapons, equipment and essential supplies. It significantly reduces disruptions during winter and helps maintain a stable logistics chain for forces deployed in eastern Ladakh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strategic Importance: The tunnel&#8217;s strategic value increased after the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/galwan-valley-conflict\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>2020 Galwan Valley clashes<\/strong><\/a> and the subsequent military standoff with China.
