{"id":11647,"date":"2023-06-04T11:58:53","date_gmt":"2023-06-04T06:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11647"},"modified":"2025-03-30T03:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T22:22:09","slug":"shanan-powerhouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shanan-powerhouse\/","title":{"rendered":"Shanan Powerhouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Shanan Powerhouse:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: It is located in <strong>Joginder Nagar<\/strong> in the <strong>Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Commissioned in 1932<\/strong>, the powerhouse was c<strong>onstructed as per a 99-year lease<\/strong> executed <strong>between Raja Jogendra Sen, the then king of Mandi<\/strong>, <strong>and Col BC Batty, Chief Engineer of the Punjab Government, in 1925.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This powerhouse was <strong>constructed against the backdrop of dense deodar forests<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>one of the oldest<\/strong> powerhouses of the country, which <strong>used to feed the entire undivided Punjab, Lahore and Delhi before Independence.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>After the reorganisation of states in 1966, the Shanan powerhouse was given to Punjab<\/strong> by the Centre as the lease agreement, signed in 1925 was yet to expire.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>project originally was of 48 MW capacity<\/strong>, but the Punjab government enhanced its capacity to 60 MW in 1982. <strong>Later, 50 MW more was added to make its capacity 110 MW.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>main attraction of the hydro project is the four-stage haulage trolley service<\/strong>. It was basically constructed <strong>for carrying construction material of Shanan powerhouse<\/strong> from Jogindernagar to Barot. It is a <strong>unique type of trolley based on pulley system with no engine<\/strong>, steering wheel or no gears or brakes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is a lease agreement?<\/h3>\n<p>A lease is a contract outlining the terms under which one party agrees to rent an asset\u2014in this case, property\u2014owned by another party.
