style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is a <\/span><b>hill fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">located near Lonavala in the <\/span><b>Pune district, Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is raised 1033 meters above sea level in the <\/span><b>Western Ghats.<\/b><\/li>\n<li 400;\">Over time, it bore witness to the <\/span><b>Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis,<\/b> <b>Nizams, Mughals, and Marathas,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> each leaving an indelible mark on its strategic and cultural significance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1648 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AD,<\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/chhatrapati-shivaji-maharaj\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj<\/a> seized <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lohagad, recognizing its defensive and strategic importance.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, due to the<\/span><b> Treaty of Purandar in 1665<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he was<\/span><b> forced to relinquish it to the Mughals.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Undeterred, he <\/span><b>recaptured the fort in 1670 AD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and used it as a <\/span><b>treasury vault <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to store the riches from his successful Surat campaign.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later, during the <\/span><b>Peshwa era,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> statesman <\/span><b>Nana Phadnavis sought refuge here,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> constructing essential structures like a large tank and step-well, which
