{"id":116647,"date":"2026-08-02T13:42:37","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T08:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=116647"},"modified":"2026-08-02T16:49:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T11:19:17","slug":"broad-peak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/broad-peak\/","title":{"rendered":"Broad Peak"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Broad Peak Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, a team of 10 mountaineers were caught in an avalanche on the slopes of Broad Peak in the Karakoram range.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Broad Peak<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the world&#8217;s 12th-highest mountain (elevation of 8,051 m) <\/span><b>situated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/karakoram-range\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karakoram ranges<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the local Balti language, it is historically known as <\/span><b>Falchan Kangri<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which <\/span><b>translates to \u201cBroad Mountain\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Origin of name:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> British explorer <\/span><b>Sir Martin Conway<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> coined the name in 1892, likened the mountain&#8217;s elongated summit ridge \u2014 which stretches more than 1.5 km (0.93 miles) \u2014 to the Breithorn in the Swiss Alps.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It sits in the Karakoram range spanning <\/span><b>Gilgit-Baltistan, and China&#8217;s Xinjiang<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, roughly 8 km southeast of K2.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Formation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Mountain was formed by the <\/span><b>ongoing collision of the Indo-Australian and Eurasian tectonic plates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Relief:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It consists of massive <\/span><b>plutonic granite blocks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and layers of <\/span><b>metamorphic rock.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its snowpack and ice walls feed the <\/span><b>Godwin-Austen and Baltoro glacier systems.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broad Peak has a <\/span><b>five-peak structure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, three of which cross 8,000 metres.
