text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a multipurpose <\/span><b>(Hydropower, Irrigation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and<\/span><b> Drinking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) project in the Kathua District of <\/span><b>Jammu and Kashmir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 on the <\/span><b>River Ujh,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is a major<\/span><b> tributary of<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ravi-river\/\" target=\"_blank\"> River Ravi<\/a>.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project, which was declared as a <\/span><b>\u201cnational project\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the year 2008, involves the construction of a 116-metre-high <\/span><b>concrete-faced rockfill dam.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is expected to generate between <\/span><b>186 MW and 212 MW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of hydroelectric power.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed to provide <\/span><b>irrigation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to nearly<\/span><b> 90,000 hectares <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of agricultural land across Kathua and Samba districts in<\/span><b> Jammu and Kashmir,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> besides Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts in <\/span><b>Punjab<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project will also supply <\/span><b>drinking water to the Kathua district<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and make water available for industrial use.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from its developmental significance, the project also has a crucial strategic dimension.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Backed by the Ministry of Home Affairs,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the project is expected to<\/span><b> regulate water flows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more effectively and<\/span><b> help plug vulnerable cross-border infiltration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> routes along the riverbed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
