Established under <\/span><b>Part VI of the Indian Constitution (Articles 168 to 212)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the State Legislature plays a vital role in India&#8217;s federal system by legislating on matters included in the <\/span><b>State List<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and, in certain cases, the <\/span><b>Concurrent List<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Seventh Schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>State Legislature<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>State Legislature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the law-making body of a state and an essential part of India&#8217;s federal system. It is responsible for enacting laws on State and Concurrent List subjects, approving the state budget, and holding the state government accountable. The State Legislature consists of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/governor\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Governor<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and, in some states, the <\/span><b>Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the <\/span><b>lower house<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the State Legislature and the primary law-making body at the state level, with members directly elected by the people through universal adult franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mandatory House:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Every Indian state must have a Legislative Assembly under the Constitution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Directly Elected:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Members (MLAs) are elected 400;\"> performs legislative, financial, executive, electoral, and constitutional functions to ensure effective governance, democratic accountability, and the welfare of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Legislative Powers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Makes laws on subjects listed in the <\/span><b>State Legislature<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>legislative procedure in the State Legislature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the constitutional process through which a Bill is introduced, debated, passed, and receives the Governor&#8217;s assent before becoming a law.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Introduction of the Bill:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A Bill may be introduced as a <\/span><b>Government Bill<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or a <\/span><b>Private Member&#8217;s Bill<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
