Recently, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution recommended mandatory Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling (FoPNL), while the ICMR\u2013National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) led \u201cLet\u2019s Fix Our Food\u201d consortium proposed a health tax on High Fat, Salt and Sugar (HFSS) foods, stricter regulation of junk food advertising and healthier school food environments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Double Burden of Malnutrition<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is facing a <\/span><b>double burden of malnutrition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where persistent undernutrition coexists with rising overweight, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obesity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Addressing this nutrition transition requires public health policies that ensure both food security and healthy diets.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" children.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mexico<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> levied a <\/span><b>tax on sugar-sweetened beverages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, leading to a decline in their consumption and encouraging healthier dietary choices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Norway, Hungary and Denmark<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have imposed taxes on sugar and other unhealthy foods to discourage excessive consumption and improve public health.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Key lesson for India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: International experience shows that a combination of front-of-pack nutrition labelling, health taxes, marketing regulations and public
