{"id":11728,"date":"2023-06-03T11:12:10","date_gmt":"2023-06-03T05:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11728"},"modified":"2025-03-30T05:06:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T23:36:24","slug":"gagan-satellite-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gagan-satellite-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"GAGAN satellite technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About GAGAN satellite technology:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>GAGAN is the acronym for <strong>GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is jointly developed by <strong>ISRO<\/strong> (Indian Space Research Organisation) and the <strong>Airports Authority of India (AAI).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It uses a system of ground stations to provide necessary augmentations to the GPS standard positioning service (SPS) navigation signal.<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to provide the additional <strong>accuracy, availability, and integrity necessary<\/strong> to enable users to rely on GPS for all phases of flight.<\/li>\n<li>It also provides the capability for increased accuracy in position reporting, allowing for more uniform and high-quality Air Traffic Management (ATM).<\/li>\n<li>In addition, GAGAN will provide benefits beyond aviation to all modes of transportation, including maritime, highways, and railroads.<\/li>\n<li>There are <strong>only four Space-Based augmentation systems<\/strong> available in the world namely India (GAGAN), <strong>US (WAAS,) Europe(EGNOS) and Japan (MSAS).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is Performance-Based Navigation (PBN)?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The PBN concept specifies aircraft RNAV<u> <\/u>system performance requirements in terms of <strong>accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity and functionality<\/strong> needed for the proposed operations in the context of a particular Airspace Concept.<\/li>\n<li>This concept represents a <strong>shift from sensor-based to performance-based navigation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Performance requirements are identified in navigation specifications, which also identify the choice of navigation sensors and equipment that may be used to meet the performance requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Global Positioning System?<\/h3>\n<p>Global Positioning System is a satellite-based navigation system that allows users to determine their precise location anywhere on Earth.
