text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was recorded off the southwest <\/span><b>coast of Kerala.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This discovery has made a total of 5 seahorse species discovered from the Kerala coast.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What is a Seahorse?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A seahorse is a <\/span><b>marine fish <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">belonging to the <\/span><b>genus Hippocampu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s and <\/span><b>related to pipefishes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are at least<\/span><b> 50 species <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of seahorses.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Distribution: They are found in <\/span><b>temperate and tropical waters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Habitat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically found in<\/span><b> shallow waters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>abundant vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as <\/span><b>coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>estuaries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are usually found <\/span><b>clinging to plants or corals with their tails. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are unique in appearance, with their <\/span><b>horselike head,<\/b> <b>prehensile tail<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, independently <\/span><b>moving eyes, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> brood pouch.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have long, tubular snouts and small, <\/span><b>toothless mouths.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their <\/span><b>bodies <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are covered with <\/span><b>consecutive rings of bony plates.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seahorses vary in size, ranging in length from about 2 to 35 cm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seahorses are rather immobile, <\/span><b>swimming more slowly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than other fishes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>When swimming<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they<\/span><b> maintain a vertical position<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>propel themselves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forward <\/span><b>using a soft-rayed dorsal fin.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They use pectoral fins located on the side of the head to maneuver.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>To move up and down,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they <\/span><b>adjust the volume of air<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a <\/span><b>tiny pocket inside their body,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> called a \u2018<\/span><b>swim bladder\u2019.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experts in <\/span><b>camouflage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they can change color to blend into their surroundings and avoid danger.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>carnivores<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
