Continuous conservation efforts have resulted in the population increasing to <\/span><b>more than 1,000 lions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> today.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An equally significant development is that <\/span><b>nearly half of the lion population now lives outside protected areas<\/b><span Landscape<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most significant challenge is that the entire wild population continues to remain concentrated within a single geographical landscape.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such concentration exposes the species to the risk of catastrophic events that could affect the entire population simultaneously.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Disease Outbreaks<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vulnerability became evident in 2018, when more than 20 Asiatic lions died due to an outbreak of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the Gujarat Forest Department responded through disease surveillance, veterinary interventions, and improved monitoring, the outbreak demonstrated the risks associated with maintaining a geographically concentrated population.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Habitat Fragmentation<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As lions continue to expand outside protected areas, maintaining habitat connectivity has become increasingly
