The <\/span><b>United Nations General Assembly established the day in December 1994<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to promote awareness of Indigenous rights and protect their unique cultural and knowledge systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>International Day of the World\u2019s Indigenous Peoples 2026 Theme<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The theme for <\/span><b>International Day of the World\u2019s Indigenous Peoples 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>\u201cHonouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The theme recognises Indigenous midwives as important holders and practitioners of traditional knowledge related to pregnancy, childbirth, maternal care and community health.
