{"id":11850,"date":"2023-06-08T04:07:17","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T22:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11850"},"modified":"2025-03-30T05:49:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T00:19:32","slug":"commando-battalion-for-resolute-action-cobra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/commando-battalion-for-resolute-action-cobra\/","title":{"rendered":"Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>specialized force <\/strong>which has been <strong>raised for guerilla\/jungle warfare type operations for dealing with <\/strong>Maoist and therefore <strong>also known as \u2018jungle warriors\u2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Personnel for CoBRA are<\/strong> <strong>selected from CRPF <\/strong>as CoBRA is integral part of CRPF.<\/li>\n<li>They <strong>undergo rigorous commando &amp; jungle warfare training<\/strong> before being posted to CoBRA BNs <strong>for anti naxal operations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In all there are 10 CoBRA Units Raised between 2008-2011<strong>.Most of its 10 battalions are deployed for anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand<\/strong> apart from some units tasked for <strong>counter-insurgency operations in the northeastern<\/strong> part of the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>premier central police force of the Union of India for internal security<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It functions <strong>under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)<\/strong> of the Government of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>History of CRPF:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Originally constituted as the Crown Representative Police in 1939<\/strong>, it is one of the oldest Central para military forces (now termed as Central Armed Police Force).<\/li>\n<li>CRPF was <strong>raised as a sequel to the political unrest and the agitations in the then princely States <\/strong>of India following the Madras Resolution of the All-India Congress Committee in 1936 and the ever-growing desire of the Crown Representative to help the vast majority of the native States to preserve law and order as a part of the imperial policy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It became the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of the CRPF Act on 28th December 1949.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Duties performed by the CRPF are<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Crowd control, Riot control<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Counter Millitancy \/ Insurgency operations<\/strong>, Dealing with Left Wing Extremism<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall<\/strong> <strong>co-ordination of large scale security arrangement<\/strong> specially with regard to elections in disturbed areas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protection of VIPs<\/strong> and <strong>vital installations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Checking environmental de-gradation<\/strong> and protection of local Flora and Fauna<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fighting aggression during War time<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Participating in UN Peace Keeping Mission<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Rescue and Relief operations<\/strong> at the time of Natural Calamities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the premier central police force of the Union of India for internal security.
