Since 2017, China has repeatedly announced its own names for places in Arunachal Pradesh as part of its broader territorial claim.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>2017<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: China released its first list, assigning names to six locations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>2021<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A second list covered 15 locations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: China announced names for another 11 locations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>By April 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: China had reportedly announced 112 standardised names through six batches, covering villages, mountain passes, rivers and peaks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>India has consistently rejected these moves, describing them as \u201cfictitious\u201d and \u201cvain and preposterous\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and maintaining that changing geographical names cannot alter the territorial status of Arunachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Response\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>India has now formally marked 27 places and geographical features using their standard Indian names on the official Survey of India map of Arunachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the government, the exercise is intended to ensure accurate recognition of these locations and improve public awareness of strategically important areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The 27 locations include:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Villages and settlements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Long Ju, Maja, Bisa, Sagar, Padma, Jyotinagar, Baisakhi and Sunpura.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mountain passes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Thag La, Dzo La, Riza La and Pukur La.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Lakes and other geographical features:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sambho Sarovar, Bara Kundun, Chhota Kundun, Chhota Ropuk and Bara Ropuk.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Strategic and logistical locations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Jairampur, Dhan Bari, Pritnagar, Teritnagar, Ramnagar, Shivaji Nagar and Kamlang Nagar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Military and historical sites<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Jaswant Garh and Sher-e-Thapa Significance of the 27 Locations<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The locations are significant because several are connected with India\u2019s border security, earlier military confrontations and access to the eastern frontier.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Long Ju<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Located near the
