The bridge connects <\/span><b>Bandra in Mumbai\u2019s western suburbs with Worli in South Mumbai<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and provides a faster route across Mahim Bay. It has not only eased traffic congestion but has also become one of the most recognisable landmarks of Mumbai.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Bandra Worli Sea Link History Location<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Bandra Worli Sea Link<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was planned as part of the proposed <\/span><b>Western Freeway<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project, which was intended to improve connectivity between Mumbai\u2019s western suburbs and the main business districts of South Mumbai.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before the sea link was constructed, the <\/span><b>Mahim Causeway<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the main road connection between the western suburbs and the island city.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project was commissioned by the <\/span><b>Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and constructed by the <\/span><b>Hindustan Construction Company (HCC)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It provides an additional high-speed route between the western suburbs and South Mumbai.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Construction was challenging because of the <\/span><b>marine environment and varying seabed conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, requiring specialised foundation techniques.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Bandra Worli Sea Link Key Features and Architecture<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bandra Worli Sea Link is an <\/span><b>eight-lane, twin-carriageway cable-stayed bridge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed for fast-moving vehicles with controlled access.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bridge uses a combination of <\/span><b>pre-stressed concrete and steel technology<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
