{"id":118735,"date":"2026-08-12T14:03:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T08:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=118735"},"modified":"2026-08-12T14:03:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T08:33:31","slug":"shruti-patrol-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shruti-patrol-vessel\/","title":{"rendered":"Shruti Patrol Vessel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Shruti Patrol Vessel Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) shruti was launched at M\/s GRSE, Kolkata.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Shruti Patrol Vessel<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Construction by:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The construction of NGOPVs is concurrently being undertaken at two shipyards \u2014 <\/span><b>Goa Shipyard Limited<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (GSL) and <\/span><b>Garden Reach Shipbuilders &amp; Engineers Ltd (GRSE), Kolkata.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These ships derive their name from India\u2019s rich heritage, with this ship being named as <\/span><b>\u2018Shruti\u2019, referring to four Vedas.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The crest design of the <\/span><b>ship depicts the constellation of Ursa Major<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a red &amp; white <\/span><b>coloured light house.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Functions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is <\/span><b>indigenously designed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will augment the existing OPVs\/ NOPVs for multi domain operations, such as maritime surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets, <\/span><b>HADR and anti-piracy missions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Features of NGOPVs<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NGOPVs are <\/span><b>significantly larger and more capable than the Offshore Patrol Vessels<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Capacity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They are with a displacement of 3,<\/span><b>000 tonnes and achieve speeds of up to 23 knots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and have an endurance <\/span><b>of 8,500 nautical miles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at a cruising speed of 14 knots,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It helps Indian Navy\u2019s pursuit towards <\/span><b>indigenous shipbuilding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is in consonance with Government of India\u2019s vision of \u2018Aatmanirbhar Bharat\u2019 and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/make-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Make in India\u2019 initiative<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2297905&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shruti Patrol Vessel is the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV).
