{"id":119393,"date":"2026-08-16T13:02:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T07:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=119393"},"modified":"2026-08-16T14:26:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T08:56:41","slug":"leucas-droupadiae","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/leucas-droupadiae\/","title":{"rendered":"Leucas droupadiae"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Leucas droupadiae Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Botanists recently discovered a previously unknown plant species named growing along the sandy shores of the Coromandel Coast. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Leucas droupadiae<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a new species of <\/span><b>plant <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">belonging to the <\/span><b>mint family (Lamiaceae).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered along the <\/span><b>sandy shores of the Coromandel Coast <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">during a survey of the coastal dunes in the Cuddalore district of <\/span><b>Tamil Nadu.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It thrives in <\/span><b>nutrient-poor, sandy habitats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What sets Leucas droupadiae apart from its closest relatives is its<\/span><b> unique loner growth habit <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and its striking seeds.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While most similar plants in this family grow as creeping vines or branched bushes with deep taproots, this new species<\/span><b> stands upright as a single, unbranched stem,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reaching only about 15 centimeters in height.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>anchors itself into the sands using a shallow web of fibrous root<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>s<\/strong> rather than a single thick root.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most distinctively, the plant <\/span><b>produces oblong fruit, known as nutlets,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are a brilliant <\/span><b>golden yellow <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> covered in irregular dark brown spots, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a feature not seen in its cousins.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scientists have <\/span><b>named <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the plant in <\/span><b>honour of Smt.
