{"id":11950,"date":"2024-08-01T02:07:55","date_gmt":"2024-07-31T20:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11950"},"modified":"2025-03-30T06:26:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T00:56:12","slug":"national-pharmaceutical-pricing-authority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-pharmaceutical-pricing-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was set up in 1997 to <strong>fix and revise the prices<\/strong> of <strong>controlled bulk drugs<\/strong>, and formulations and to enforce prices and availability of the medicines in the country, under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 1995.<\/li>\n<li>It is an <strong>independent Regulator<\/strong> for pricing of drugs and to ensure availability and accessibility of medicines at affordable prices.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>To <strong>implement and enforce<\/strong> the provisions of the <strong>Drugs (Prices Control) Order<\/strong> in accordance with the powers delegated to it.<\/li>\n<li>To deal with all legal matters arising out of the decisions of the Authority.<\/li>\n<li>To <strong>monitor the availability of drugs<\/strong>, identify shortages, if any, and to take remedial steps<\/li>\n<li>To collect\/ maintain data on production, exports and imports, market share of individual companies, profitability of companies etc, for bulk drugs and formulations<\/li>\n<li>To undertake and\/ or sponsor relevant studies in respect of pricing of drugs\/ pharmaceuticals<\/li>\n<li>To render assistance to the Central Government in the parliamentary matters relating to the drugs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nodal Ministry:<\/strong> It is an attached office of the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), <strong>Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the &#8220;Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO)?<\/h3>\n<p>The Drugs Prices Control Order, 1995 is an order issued by the Government of India under Sec. 3 of Essential Commodities Act, 1955 to regulate the prices of drugs.
