He later graduated from Scottish Church College in 1919 and studied at the University of Cambridge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Popular Name: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Subhas Chandra Bose was popularly known as Netaji. He opposed proposals favouring <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dominion-status\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>dominion status<\/strong><\/a> and advocated complete freedom from British rule.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Congress Leadership: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bose joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/foundation-of-indian-national-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Indian National Congress<\/strong><\/a> and became president in 1938. He used the INA as an armed force to pursue Indian independence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Military Campaign:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The INA advanced with Japanese forces towards India. It reached the Imphal and Kohima region in 1944 but was eventually defeated and forced to retreat after lacking adequate air support.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>National Planning:<\/strong> As Congress president in 1938, Bose established a national planning committee. Under his leadership, the INA\u2019s strength grew to about 50,000.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Death<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The death of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose remains disputed, with official inquiries and historical investigations producing different conclusions about the reported plane crash.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bose is reported to have suffered severe burn injuries after a plane crash on 18 August 1945.
