{"id":119770,"date":"2026-08-18T13:38:50","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T08:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=119770"},"modified":"2026-08-18T13:38:50","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T08:08:50","slug":"medak-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/medak-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Medak Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Medak Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a rare honour, the postal department launched a postal cover and a postal stamp on the historical Medak fort recently. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Medak Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>historic hill fort<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in Medak town, <\/span><b>Telangana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort was built during the <\/span><b>12th century <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under the reign of the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/kakatiya-dynasty\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kakatiya ruler<\/a>, Pratapa Rudra,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and it was initially called \u2018MethukuDurgam\u2019 in Telugu.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It served as a <\/span><b>command post for the Kakatiyas <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>later for the Qutub Shahis.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Medak Fort <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spread over 100 acres at an average elevation of 90 metres from ground level, the fort houses a small <\/span><b>lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>barrack<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>warehouse, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a 11-foot-long c<\/span><b>annon from 17th Century CE.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has three main entrances, namely the \u201cPrathama Dwaram\u201d, the \u201cSimhaDwaram\u201d which features two snarling lions at the top of these entrances while the \u201cGajaDwaram\u201d, or the Elephant\u2019s Entrance features a sculpture where two elephants are majestically interlocked on both sides of this entrance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>main entrance <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">features the <\/span><b>double-headed \u201cGandabherundam\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>emblem of Vijayanagara Empire built by the great ruler Srikrishna Devaraya.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort also has a<\/span><b> 17th-century mosque<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on its premises <\/span><b>built by the Qutub Shahis, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as granaries. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/telanganatoday.com\/postal-department-launches-special-cover-and-stamp-on-medak-fort\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Medak Fort is a historic hill fort located in Medak town, Telangana.
