The calendar reflects India&#8217;s historical and astronomical traditions while providing a common system of dates for government use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>National Calendar of India Saka Calendar<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Indian National Calendar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is based on the <\/span><b>Saka calendar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also known as the <\/span><b>Saka Samvat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It follows a system of <\/span><b>12 months and 365 days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a normal year and is used as the country&#8217;s official civil calendar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first month of the Saka calendar is <\/span><b>Chaitra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Normally, <\/span><b>1 Chaitra falls on 22 March<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while in a <\/span><b>Gregorian leap year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it falls on <\/span><b>21 March<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Saka Era begins in <\/span><b>78 CE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is traditionally associated with the <\/span><b>Shalivahana or Saka Era<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
