{"id":11978,"date":"2023-06-09T06:26:57","date_gmt":"2023-06-09T00:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11978"},"modified":"2025-03-30T06:36:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T01:06:12","slug":"about-primary-agricultural-credit-societies-pacs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-primary-agricultural-credit-societies-pacs\/","title":{"rendered":"About Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These are <strong>village-level cooperative credit societies<\/strong> that serve as the <strong>last link in a three-tier cooperative credit structure.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These are <strong>headed by the State Cooperative Banks (SCB) at the state level.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Credit from the SCBs is transferred to the district central cooperative banks<\/strong>, or <strong>DCCBs<\/strong>, that operate at the district level.<\/li>\n<li>These <strong>DCCBs<\/strong> <strong>work with PACS<\/strong>, <strong>which deals directly with farmers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Individual farmers are members of the PACS<\/strong>, and <strong>office-bearers are elected from within them.<\/strong> A village can have multiple PACS.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>main function<\/strong> of the PACS is to <strong>provide short and medium-term purpose loans to its members.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Other functions include:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Supplying of agricultural inputs<\/strong> including seeds, fertilizers, insecticides, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintaining the supply of the light machinery<\/strong> for the agricultural purpose.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Providing marketing facilities<\/strong> that could enhance the sale of their agricultural products.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote savings habits<\/strong> among its members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What are cooperative societies?<\/h3>\n<p>Co-operative societies are profit-oriented entities which aim to obtain marketability for the products produced by agricultural and other labour-intensive businesses. These societies work on the principle of self-help as well as mutual help.
