It is commonly recited in schools during morning assemblies and on important national occasions such as <\/span><b>Independence Day and Republic Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The pledge promotes <\/span><b>national unity, respect, cultural diversity, discipline and the well-being of society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>National Pledge<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is my country. All Indians are my brothers and sisters. I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall strive to be worthy of it. I shall respect my parents, teachers and all elders and treat everyone with courtesy. To my country and all my people, I pledge my devotion. In their well-being and prosperity alone lies my happiness.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>National Pledge of India History and Origin<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>National Pledge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was written in <\/span><b>1962<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><b>Pydimarri Venkata Subba Rao<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Telugu writer and government official. He originally composed the pledge in <\/span><b>Telugu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while serving as the District Treasury Officer in Visakhapatnam.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pledge was first <\/span><b>recited in a school in Visakhapatnam in 1963<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Its simple language and emphasis on national unity helped it gain wider acceptance in schools.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following its initial use, the pledge was <\/span><b>translated into several Indian languages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so that students across the country could recite it in their respective languages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1964<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Central Advisory Board on Education discussed the practice of reciting the pledge in schools. It recommended that the pledge should be introduced in schools across the country from <\/span><b>26 January 1965<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the <\/span><b>National Pledge is widely regarded as an important national expression of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it was <\/span><b>never formally adopted by the Parliament of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and finds <\/span><b>no mention in the <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/indian-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Constitution of India<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Pledge of India Key Message<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pledge begins with a declaration that <\/span><b>India is our country and all Indians are brothers and sisters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This expresses the idea of national unity and a shared sense of belonging despite India&#8217;s social and cultural diversity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It highlights love and pride for India&#8217;s <\/span><b>rich and varied cultural heritage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In this way, it encourages a sense of responsibility towards society rather than focusing only on individual interests.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Pledge of India Importance and Usage<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Pledge is widely recited during <\/span><b>school morning assemblies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making it an important part of students&#8217; civic and national education.
