But they\u2019re <\/span><b>about the same size <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2 to 3 millimeters, about the size of a sesame seed).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because they\u2019re so small and nearly see-through, sea lice are almost <\/span><b>impossible to see with the naked eye.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Unlike head lice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>which bite<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and burrow into your scalp to feed on your blood, <\/span><b>sea lice can sting.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And those stings can <\/span><b>cause a rash called seabather\u2019s eruption<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It can appear within minutes or up to a day after exposure.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although <\/span><b>seabather\u2019s eruption can be uncomfortable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it\u2019s usually <\/span><b>not a serious concern.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s typically <\/span><b>easy to spot and treat.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A<\/span><b> sea lice rash is usually:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Very itchy<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Red and raised<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar in appearance to small pimples, blisters, or welts<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sea lice rash tends to <\/span><b>affect areas covered by your bathing suit.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pressure on the organisms from the bathing suit causes the stinging cells to discharge, releasing toxins into the skin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sea lice <\/span><b>can also get caught in hair on your head or body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
