The approach is moving beyond women as beneficiaries of welfare schemes towards women as active contributors to economic and social development, recognising Nari Shakti as a key driver of Viksit Bharat @2047.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>1. Girl Child: Survival, Protection and Education<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The life cycle begins with ensuring that girls survive, remain in school and build the capabilities needed for adulthood.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Beti Bachao Beti Padhao<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/beti-bachao-beti-padhao\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beti Bachao Beti Padhao<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (BBBP) programme addresses the declining Child Sex Ratio and promotes the protection and education of girls.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It focuses on institutional deliveries, girls\u2019 secondary-school enrolment, reducing dropouts and antenatal-care registration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>National Family Health Survey-5 (2019-21)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recorded a sex ratio of 1,020 females per 1,000 males, compared with 943 in Census 2011.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ssy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> encourages long-term savings for the girl child and supports future education and marriage needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deposits can begin with \u20b9250, while the scheme provides tax benefits and permits partial withdrawal for higher education and marriage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Total deposits under the scheme exceeded \u20b93.33 lakh crore as of December 2025.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Samagra Shiksha and KGBVs<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Samagra Shiksha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kasturba-gandhi-balika-vidyalayas-kgbv\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs)<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> strengthen girls\u2019 access to school education, particularly for disadvantaged groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Female school enrolment reached 11.96 crore in 2025-26.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KGBV enrollment increased from 6.07 lakh in 2020-21 to 7.58 lakh in 2025-26.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gender Inclusion Fund under the National Education Policy 2020 provides targeted support for disadvantaged girls.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>2. Adolescence: Nutrition, Skills and New-Age Education<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As girls enter adolescence, the focus expands from basic access to nutrition, higher education, vocational skills and participation in STEM.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Nutrition and Adolescent Health<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mission Saksham Anganwadi and <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/poshan-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>POSHAN 2.0<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an integrated programme that strengthens Anganwadi services and nutrition support for <\/span><b>children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while upgrading Anganwadi Centres into <\/span><b>Saksham Anganwadis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 31 July 2026, more than 8.94 crore beneficiaries were being served, including 15.68 lakh adolescent girls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around <\/span><b>1.29 lakh Anganwadi Centres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were upgraded as <\/span><b>Saksham Anganwadis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the last five years to provide improved services.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>STEM and Higher Education<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Targeted interventions are helping more girls enter science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and higher education.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/vigyan-jyoti-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vigyan Jyoti Scheme<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had benefited more than 1.12 lakh girls across 300 districts by March 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supernumerary seats in IITs and NITs helped raise women\u2019s participation from below 10% to above 20%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women accounted for more than 53% of UGC NET-JRF scholars in STEM subjects in 2024-25.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Female enrolment in higher education increased to 2.18 crore in 2022-23, from 1.57 crore in 2014-15.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Scholarships and Vocational Skills<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial and skill support is helping girls transition from education to employment.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>AICTE PRAGATI Scholarship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offers 10,000 scholarships annually, with nearly 36,000 girls benefiting by 2024-25.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>National PG Scholarship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provides \u20b91.5 lakh annually to selected students, including 3,000 women each year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pradhan-mantri-kaushal-vikas-yojana-pmkvy\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides industry-aligned training, with nearly 45% of beneficiaries being women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/navya-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>NAVYA<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, launched in 2025, trains girls aged 16-18 in digital marketing, cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence-enabled services; 1,060 girls had been trained by June 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>3. Reproductive and Maternal Health: Safe Motherhood<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next stage of the life cycle focuses on safe pregnancy, institutional delivery and financial support during motherhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pm-matru-vandana-yojana\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provides maternity benefits through Direct Benefit Transfer.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women receive \u20b95,000 for the first living child and \u20b96,000 for a second child if the child is a girl.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 31 July 2026, 5.13 crore beneficiaries had enrolled, 4.37 crore had received payments and \u20b920,571 crore had been paid.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pradhan-mantri-surakshit-matritva-abhiyaan\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA)<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provides free antenatal check-ups at government facilities on the 9th of every month, particularly focusing on high-risk pregnancies.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 13 August 2026, more than 7.50 crore pregnant women had been examined through PMSMA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 6.85 crore antenatal check-ups had been conducted and 1.03 crore high-risk pregnancies identified for focused digital tracking.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides free delivery, including Caesarean section, along with transport, diagnostics, medicines, blood and diet in public health institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During 2024-25, more than 1.99 crore pregnant women and 16.85 lakh sick infants received support.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2014-15, more than 18.05 crore beneficiaries have received assistance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Maternal Health Outcomes<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These interventions have been accompanied by improvements in key maternal-health indicators.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First-trimester antenatal visits increased from 58.6% in NFHS-4 to 76.2% in NFHS-6.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women completing four or more antenatal-care visits increased from 51.2% to 65.2%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Institutional births increased from 78.9% to 90.6%.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>4. Adult Women: Health, Nutrition and Well-being<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond motherhood, the focus shifts towards continuous healthcare, preventive screening and financial protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Ayushman Bharat<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides cashless secondary and tertiary healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 12 August 2026, 45.5 crore Ayushman cards had been created, including 22.48 crore cards issued to women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 5.25 crore hospital admissions under the scheme were of women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs were functional, providing primary and preventive healthcare.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-ayushman-bharat-digital-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more than 110 crore health records had been digitally linked, while women accounted for 49.72% of ABHA accounts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Preventive Health<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preventive interventions are increasingly being integrated into women\u2019s healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of March 2026, 3.96 crore pregnant women were registered on the <\/span><b>U-WIN platform <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for digital immunisation tracking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 8.73 crore women had been screened for cervical cancer as of February 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nationwide <\/span><b>Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was launched on 28 February 2026 for about 1.2 crore eligible 14-year-old girls; 52.10 lakh girls had received the vaccine by 15 July 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>5. Economic Empowerment: From Beneficiary to Earner<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The life-cycle approach ultimately seeks to give women income, financial independence, access to credit and control over economic opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Self Help Groups and Lakhpati Didi<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has created a large women-led Self Help Group ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SHGs had accessed more than \u20b912.18 lakh crore in bank credit through over 50,548 trained <\/span><b>Bank Sakhis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as of February 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By June 2026, 4.32 lakh enterprises had been supported under the <\/span><b>Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-lakhpati-didi-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Lakhpati Didi<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aims to enable SHG women to earn a sustainable annual household income of at least \u20b91 lakh; by March 2026, the initiative covered 10.14 crore SHG members across 34 States\/UTs and 757 districts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Financial Inclusion and Credit<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Formal financial access has expanded significantly among women.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of August 2026, 32.68 crore of the 58.90 crore <\/span><b>Jan-Dhan accounts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> belonged to women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pradhan-mantri-mudra-yojana-pmmy\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, about two-thirds of sanctioned loans have gone to women entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/pm-svanidhi-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>PM Street Vendor\u2019s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, women accounted for 46% of beneficiaries as of August 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Women, Technology and Markets<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government initiatives are also connecting women with technology-based livelihoods and organised markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/namo-drone-didi-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>NaMo Drone Didi<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trains women Self Help Group members to operate drones for agricultural applications; 1,094 drones had been distributed to women SHGs since inception.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Womaniya on Government e-Marketplace (GeM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had more than 2.1 lakh women-led enterprises registered and secured \u20b928,000 crore+ in contract value during FY 2025-26.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/she-marts\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Self Help Entrepreneur Mart (SHE-Mart)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, announced in Union Budget 2026-27, aims to benefit 1 crore women by supporting sustainable enterprises.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>6. Safety, Dignity and Living Standards<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economic empowerment cannot be sustained without personal safety, protection from harassment and secure living conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Mission Shakti<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-mission-shakti\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Mission Shakti<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> combines the Sambal and Samarthya verticals for women\u2019s safety and empowerment.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One Stop Centres and <\/span><b>Nari Adalats <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provide institutional support and grievance redressal for women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Women Helpline (181) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had supported more than 1.05 crore women with 24\u00d77 assistance by 31 July 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>SHe-Box portal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enables online reporting of workplace sexual harassment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Housing<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Housing schemes strengthen women\u2019s security and ownership of household assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under <\/span><b>Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more than 96.06 lakh houses, or 24.73% of houses, had been allotted exclusively to women as of 13 August 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under <\/span><b>PMAY-Urban 2.0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 1 crore houses had been allotted to women as of 9 August 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>7.
